Post 4: Geometry in fashion

Since in fashion Geometry is in charge of shaping both, the mannequines and the finished piece of clothing itself, it can be said that Geometry and fashion go hand in hand.

Geometric patterns have always been relevant in fashion design: squares, circles, hexagonal shapes and stripes, adding also rectangles, triangles and trapezoids. All these shapes inspire and drive both, designers and consumers of the clothing crazy.

But we can not only relate geometric figures to the prints of the garments, but also to their shapes and cuts!

On the other hand, human body measurements in garment design are essential: the human figure is composed of elements such as lines, points, volumes, shapes, measures, textures, etc., elements that together project a type of body, which is classified according to the figure that predominates in it.

The application of Geometry in fashion design is used, for example, from the moment in which the designer starts to conceive the design and project it on paper, where he or she adds the volume, texture, colour and shape that he or she wants to the product.

This implies that: what we imagine is supported by geometrical principles and in this way, the project is viable. In this process, for example, descriptive geometry is used, which is the study of three-dimensional shapes in a two-dimensional plane.

Body types also show the application of geometry.
